Relationships

Relationships with children, families, other professionals and the community are seen as fundamental to facilitating best possible outcomes for children. These relationships are built upon a foundation of mutual respect and trust, with teacher, educator and family investment being central to the children’s learning, wellbeing and future. These very important relationships are founded within an environment that values diversity, encourages listening and open, shared communication.

High Quality Education

Our educational endeavours are based on a strong belief that high-quality education leads to the development of well-rounded, confident and successful children. We believe that children learn in an environment that encourages exploration and discovery, provides opportunities for challenge and time to think deeply, and imparts a sense of wonder and a lifelong love of learning; children learn best when they are supported through challenges, or to extend their understandings by a more experienced other; and the environment acts as a third teacher and allows children to express their thoughts, feelings and ideas, as well as allowing them to have choice in matters that affect them when appropriate.

Community

Community exists on several levels within our service. It begins with our teachers, educators, children and families. It extends to our mutually supportive relationships with professionals and works outward to our broader community. We believe in both bringing the community into our service and taking ourselves out into the community so the children can develop a deeper understanding about the world in which they belong. We encourage the participation of parents, families and other community members. Our open-door policy reflects that the preschool belongs to the community, and therefore, parents, families and community members are always welcome.

Belonging and Inclusion

We believe that partnerships are integral to not only our pre-school community, but also the children’s development and wellbeing. A sense of belonging for all children, families, teachers and educators begins with the development of trusting relationships and open communication. We endeavour to provide an environment where all who enter experience a sense of comfort, fulfilment, satisfaction and contentment. We embrace diversity and celebrate the rich experiences of all, with justice, equity and inclusion being central to our shared values.

Wellbeing

Physical, social and emotional wellbeing are crucial to children’s development. We believe in providing an environment that is built upon respectful relationships between all. This means ensuring the safety of not only children and families, but also teachers and educators – we strive to build confident and resilient individuals. All who attend Dromana Pre-School are supported to thrive in a safe, supportive, positive environment that celebrates not only success but the willingness to ‘give it a go!’
